Icelandic Tablet Woven Band (Silk)

Bláklædda Konan (Lady in Blue)
Iceland

This tablet woven design is based on the smokkr (apron dress) worn by Bláklædda Konan (Lady in Blue). Discovered in a grave north of Ketilsstaðir (Egilsstaðir), in Iceland, this simple pattern was woven into the edge of the blue outer garment worn by Viking Age women.

This band is 112 cm ( 44”) in length and 0.5 cm (1/5”) wide. It is handwoven with 100% plant dyed* silk and would work wonderfully as hair tape, a fillet for your veil or a fine silk trim for your Viking Age or Early Medieval garb! This design features colours produced with natural indigo (navy blue), dandelion flowers (caramel brown), and undyed white yarn to create a pleasing contrast.

*Plant dyed yarn is beautiful but will require special care to maintain vibrancy and colour fastness. All tablet woven wares are wet finished by Knarr Traders prior to sale to prevent shrinkage, set twist and avoid colour bleeding. Refrain from regular washing. If washing is required, soak in cold water. Do not agitate, scrub or wring wet wool. Dry flat in shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
