Gaigovo-1 Tablet Woven Band

This tablet woven design is based on a small textile fragment from the Gaigovo-1 barrow in Staraya Ladoga, Russia. Woven in blue, yellow and red wool, this colourful band is dated to the 11th Century. The original fragment remains sewn perpendicular to the edge of twill cloth with green thread.

This band is 218 cm ( 86 inches) in length and 1.5 cm (3/5 inch) wide. Handwoven with 100% plant dyed* wool, this beautifully simple design would be perfect as a narrow belt or trim for your Viking Age garments. This design features colours produced with madder root (brick red ), iron gall (lavender purple), and onion skins (light yellow).

*Plant dyed wool is beautiful but will require special care to maintain vibrancy and colour fastness. All tablet woven wares are wet finished by Knarr Traders prior to sale to prevent shrinkage, set twist and avoid colour bleeding. Refrain from regular washing. If washing is required, soak in cold water. Do not agitate, scrub or wring wet wool. Dry flat in shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods.I
